A Top Ten List That Isn’t

By Heidi Happonen

Inc. Magazine hits the nail on the head with this one: 9 Beliefs of Remarkably Successful People. First, I love it because it’s not a top-ten list. It’s a top-nine list. But upon closer examination, there’s not a single point here that isn’t exactly right. While each example gives us something to ponder, it can all be summed up with a single statement:

Get over yourself.

Here’s how we got there: The list is still worth your read.

It’s not about the deadline, it’s about the result. It’s not about the people you are forced to work with, it’s how you deal with them. It’s not about what you’ve done, it’s about what you have done LATELY. And if you can’t detail recent accomplishments, no one cares. Failure is as important to success as success is. Own up to it. Learn from it. And move on. Always have an attitude of: “yeah, I can do that” rather than an attitude of “that’s not what I do.” Think beyond yourself. And believe it or not, the customer is STILL right. Even when they are wrong. Get over it. And when you say you go the extra mile, be the one person who actually means it. And then do it.

Businesses and business leaders who make their mark live by these rules. It’s nice to see them so neatly outlined in one place.
