BANK OF AMERICA TOWER
RENAMED COLUMBIA CENTER

  • Equity Office Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Seattle's Tallest Tower With a Return to its Roots

SEATTLE, WA – November 14, 2005
Equity Office today announces its landmark 76-story office building, formerly known as the Bank of America Tower, will return to its original moniker - Columbia Center. Situated in the heart of Seattle's Financial District, Columbia Center is located on the southwest corner of Columbia Street and Fifth Avenue.

“When the building was completed in 1985, Columbia Center changed the face of the Seattle skyline and put the city on the map as the premier place to conduct business,” said Patrick Callahan, senior vice president of Equity Office's Seattle Region. “As we celebrate the building's 20th Anniversary, we honor its heritage, and are excited to see how Columbia Center will continue to influence business and development during the next 20 years.”

Columbia Center is the tallest building in the Pacific Northwest comprising 1.5 million square feet of office and retail space. Since purchasing the building in 1998, Equity Office has completed a series of renovations, including a $5 million renovation of the building's Fifth Avenue lobby. The company also recently completed the first phase of a three-phase retail corridor renovation. The $800,000 phase one initiative included upgrades to the first floor atrium of the building.

Designed by architect Chester Lindsey, Columbia Center is a tribute to modern architecture, with three interlocking geometric arches; a distinctive base constructed of polished Rosa Purino Carnelian granite, and smoky-gray windows wrapping around the exterior.
