Vulcan Adds Flavor and Flair to South Lake Union’s Retail Mix

  • New Dining Options and Retail Boutiques Open in Time for Holiday Shopping Season

SEATTLE – November 1, 2007

Who wouldn’t want a better golf swing under the tree? Or swankier furniture for their condominium, a stunning bit of fashion for the big holiday party, a dazzling home accessory to show off to visiting family? Perhaps, with so much turkey flying around, you might just want to get away to a great Neapolitan pizza dinner.

Just in time for holiday shopping, Vulcan Inc. today announced the addition of five new retailers in South Lake Union. At 2200, on the corner of Westlake Avenue N. and Denny Way, Tutta Bella will officially welcome its new customers on November 5; Opal, a new clothing boutique, opens in early December; and Clover House Gifts Plants & Home recently opened at 2200. At Alley24 located across the street from REI, GolfTEC opens in early December and Velocity Art & Design opened a few weeks ago.

“These new retailers continue to enhance South Lake Union’s vibrancy by providing wonderful new amenities to the growing number of residents, workers and shoppers coming to the neighborhood,” said Ada M. Healey, vice president of real estate at Vulcan. “With the Seattle Streetcar about to open in a few weeks, South Lake Union is also within easy reach of downtown holiday shoppers who are seeking distinctive, authentic retail options just a short streetcar ride away.”

Over the holiday season, South Lake Union shoppers can enjoy free 90-minute parking with validation at 2200 and take a short streetcar ride to downtown’s retail core – a great option for avoiding expensive, crowded parking lots along Pine Street. Anyone wanting to create a fun, romantic and elegant holiday shopping experience might consider an overnight stay at the Pan Pacific Seattle Hotel at 2200 to rejuvenate and recharge.

Tutta Bella, the Northwest’s first Naples-certified pizzeria, is set to open its third highly anticipated location at 2200 with a grand opening on November 5. The Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Naples, Italy has approved Tutta Bella’s entire Neapolitan pizza-making process. Owned by Joe Fugere and Matthew Kellogg, Tutta Bella currently operates two thriving neighborhood pizzerias in Columbia City and Stone Way.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring an authentic Neapolitan experience to our friends in the South Lake Union community. Naples gave the world espresso, gelato, and pizza. Tutta Bella is poised to do the same for this vibrant neighborhood,” said R.C. Jennings, general manager of Tutta Bella.

The 2200 pizzeria and wine bar will offer a large selection of imported Italian wines, traditional distilled spirits and espresso beverages in addition to famous pizza made with fresh ingredients in century old Neapolitan artisan traditions. The pizzeria and wine bar are located above Whole Foods Market, adjacent to Marazul restaurant and will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tutta Bella’s traditional Neapolitan espresso bar will be open daily. For more information, visit www.tuttabella.com.

Close by, Clover House is also open at 2200 and is selling a wide assortment of quality gifts and home accessories, including houseplants, jewelry, bath & body products, stationery & cards, candles and perfume products. Co-owned by 2200 condominium owners Tonia and Josh Feinstein, Clover House has the right options to spice up a room with the perfect accent. The shop also features an abundant supply of indoor plants & pottery to give local homeowners a little green in their residences. A repotting service is also available. The store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, please visit www.cloverhousegifts.com.

Also in 2200, Opal will offer a unique, one-of-a-kind selection of the finest in fashions beginning in December. Bright colors and delicate tones highlight a collection that will help any shopper leave in style. Opal will carry lines including Juicy Couture, True Religion, Michael Stars, William Rast, Velvet, Trina Turk, Iisli and Vince, among many others. The boutique underscores Vulcan’s commitment to bringing independent businesses to the neighborhood.

GolfTEC, the nation's leading technology golf instruction company, will be opening a new location at Alley24 in early December. Based in Centennial, Colorado, the company offers comprehensive teaching in golf technique, equipment and conditioning. Using high tech digital cameras, motion analysis, and audio and visual tools, Golftec helps players improve their swings and overall game play. More information can be found at www.golftec.com.

Also new to Alley 24 is Velocity Art And Design. Velocity features an elegant and curated collection of the best in modern home furnishings and accessories, perfect for the burgeoning number of residents in the neighborhood and beyond. In this new location, Velocity presents vibrant up-and-coming designers and artists from around the world. Velocity is currently highlighting modern design’s interpretation of flora and fauna. With the latest addition of Tutta Bella, Clover House, Opal boutique, Velocity Art & Design and GolfTEC, South Lake Union is fast becoming a destination shopping zone. Other retail options that are open at 2200 and Alley24 include Whole Foods Market, Scraps Dog Bakery, Marazul restaurant, F.K. Kirsten, Starbucks, Westlake Cleaners, Kelley-Ross Pharmacy, Bank of America, Seva Home, tottini, Urban Beast, Spa Blix, Espresso Vivace, Southlake Grill, Mad Pizza and Cajetan Bakery & Deli. GolfTEC’s new presence also reinforces the Cascade neighborhood’s reputation as Seattle’s premier shopping district for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. Within a two block radius of the new Golftec location are REI, Play It Again Sports, Snowboard Connection and Feathered Friends.
