Virginia Mason (VM) is one of Seattle’s leading private, non-profit medical centers.
Situation
Virginia Mason was preparing to demolish a building and break ground on a new addition to its main hospital.
Through a long and sometimes contentious process, the project had created dissention within the First Hill community.
Solution
Developed a public affairs and community outreach program that would help VM address community needs and improve VM’s reputation with First Hill stakeholders and neighbors.
Conducted forums where VM and neighbors could engage in dialogue, present information and have questions answered.
Created a sounding board consisting of key First Hill leaders to build credibility and trust.
Results
Re-engaged community members and opened doors to positive dialogue.
Regular outreach to residents culminated in a well-received open house and reception.
