Historic Flight Foundation

Aviation and Education

Background

The Historic Flight Foundation began planning their 6th Annual Vintage Aircraft Weekend, but was having a difficult time generating media interest. Given the general lack of enthusiasm among media in providing pre-event coverage, coupled with low community recognition, the Historic Flight Foundation flew right onto The Fearey Group’s radar.

Strategies

In order to generate buzz and community awareness surrounding the 6th Annual Vintage Aircraft Weekend, The Fearey Group developed a Fearless Idea to create a “Pilot for a Day” contest providing twelve individuals with a once in a lifetime opportunity. Utilizing Facebook, Twitter and the Historic Flight Foundation’s website, the community responded with over 500 submissions to the contest and a multitude of conversations surrounding the event.

Results

The “Pilot for a Day” event took place just prior to the 6th Annual Vintage Aircraft Weekend.  More than 35 media placements were secured, all including messaging about Vintage Aircraft Weekend.

This heightened exposure totaled almost nine million impressions in top tier Seattle outlets, including The Seattle Times, The Daily Herald, SeattlePI.com, 425 Magazine and My Northwest.
