Case Study
The Flying Heritage Collection is a premier aviation attraction showcasing one of the world’s largest collections of vintage aircrafts restored to flying condition.
Situation
- Vulcan Inc. charged The Fearey Group with handling the PR for the re-opening of the collection in a new location.
- The goals were to differentiate the collection from other aircraft museums, drive attendance and achieve abundant media coverage.
Solution
- Conducted countless hours of research – interviewing pilots, collecting oral histories and reading historical documents to help inform the strategic and creative execution.
- Implemented an aggressive media relations program with press kits, media pitches, digital media, behind-the-scenes photo ops, video b-roll and multi-media new releases to create buzz for the grand opening.
- Opening week activities included a TV and radio tour with the Museum Director, a media day, staged ribbon cutting, front-page newspaper coverage and more.
Results
- Built awareness via local, regional and national media, surpassing goals by 348 percent.
- Visitors topped 400 on opening day and over 2,000 in the first week.
- Within four months, the collection achieved more than 64 percent of its annual ticket sales goal and 78 percent of its annual revenue goal.
